We fitted the stairwell before the building was plastered out, but we left this balustrading until later.
The ground floor concrete was covered throughout with 4 inch thick flooring grade expanded polystyrene, then with a damp-proof membrane, and finally with chipboard t&g flooring.
The lounge became the workshop for most of the fitting out.
The skirting boards and door architraves were meranti, stained with mahogany wood stain.
Mary cut and fitted the door architraves, Mel cut and fitted the skirting boards.
The study became the store room and was the only room not to be plastered. We wood-panelled the walls and ceiling and constructed a large built-in bookcase along one wall, together with built-in cupboards and plentiful working desk space.
